Program Manager – HELP Outreach
Lead a compassionate team advocating for vulnerable people. Offer guidance, manage crises, supervise staff, and ensure high-quality care. Attractive salary and full benefits.
Overview of the Program Manager Position
This full-time Program Manager position offers a competitive salary of $71,070 with full benefits. The schedule is three days on, three days off, with 12-hour rotating shifts.
As Program Manager, your main duties will be to guide and supervise a team dedicated to supporting individuals facing homelessness, addiction, and mental health challenges. The role involves a cycle of both day and overnight shifts, ensuring round-the-clock coverage.
You’ll be responsible for program development, resource allocation, staff and volunteer supervision, and routine program evaluations. Additional tasks range from report writing and crisis intervention to maintaining data compliance and conducting audits.
The position requires a post-secondary diploma or bachelor’s degree, at least three years of team management experience, and four years of work related to addictions or mental health. Applicants should demonstrate strong crisis management and leadership abilities.
Your empathy, non-judgmental attitude, and advanced communication skills will be essential for handling both routine and emergency scenarios, making a meaningful impact every day.
Key Responsibilities and Daily Work
Expect to start each shift by ensuring staff coverage is adequate and all operational aspects of the program are running smoothly. You will regularly interact with both team members and clients, offering support and guidance while driven by compassion and policy.
Debriefing after critical incidents, supporting staff through training and mentorship, and coordinating with partner organizations are daily norms. You will also address both client and staff grievances as part of maintaining a respectful workplace environment.
Recruiting, onboarding, and performance management for staff are continuous responsibilities. Managing time-off requests and payroll accuracy will consume a portion of your administrative time.
Partnerships with community agencies and stakeholders are essential to this role, as is crisis intervention during high-pressure events. Your organizational and communication skills will be constantly in play.
Your shift will also involve overseeing volunteers and students, reviewing compliance, and keeping up with safety protocols, making adaptability one of the most valuable qualities for this position.
Pros of the Program Manager Position
This job offers a stable, above-average salary with comprehensive benefits, providing financial security. The rotating schedule could fit well for those who appreciate longer periods off between working days.
There’s potential to make a significant impact within the community, leading efforts that directly support vulnerable populations. The opportunity to collaborate with other agencies ensures variety and valuable professional networking.
Supervising, coaching, and mentoring staff can foster long-term career growth. The workplace is dynamic, never monotonous, and those who enjoy rising to a challenge will find it highly rewarding.
Cons of the Program Manager Position
With the demanding schedule of long, rotating 12-hour shifts, work-life balance may be a concern for some candidates.
This is a high-stress role, often requiring you to deal with emergencies, critical incidents, and crisis debriefing. The environment can be emotionally and physically demanding.
There are strict requirements, such as specific licenses and background checks, in addition to physical demands of supporting clients in distress.
Final Verdict
If you’re an experienced leader with compassion and resilience, this Program Manager position can offer both security and meaning. The impact you make will be real and lasting.
Consider whether you thrive in dynamic environments, have the ability to guide teams, and value working for a cause. For the right candidate, this job is a great fit.
